Saudi Arabia adds 210,000 seats to Haramain high-speed train
Riyadh - Saudi Arabia’s Railway Company (SAR) has announced an increase in the capacity of the Haramain High-Speed Railway for the 1447 H Hajj season to more than 2.21 million seats, aiming to fulfil the heightened transport demand between Mecca and Medina.
This marks an addition of over 210,000 seats compared to the previous season, with plans for 5,308 journeys, representing an approximate 11 per cent increase.
Rail transport for Hajj pilgrims from King Abdulaziz International Airport station to Mecca station will commence on Tuesday, 5 May, marking the start of the 1447 H Hajj.
The high-speed train fleet consists of 35 sets operating at speeds of up to 300 km/h along a 453-kilometre route.
The journey between Mecca and Medina takes approximately two hours, with five main stations connecting the two holy cities and Jeddah.
This initiative supports the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at enhancing services for pilgrims and improving the overall Hajj worship experience.
