Klungkung Regent I Made Satria has explained the cause of the fuel (BBM) scarcity that previously led to long queues at several public fuel filling stations (SPBU) in Nusa Penida Subdistrict. The issue stemmed from damage to one of the piers at Padang Bai Port, which impacted the reduction in cargo ship crossings.

“Indeed, there was damage to pier 2 at Padang Bai Port. We have written to ASDP, where previously when the pier was damaged, we were given one trip, and yesterday we wrote requesting that two trips be maintained. Fortunately, yesterday we sent the letter and it has been approved. Thus, the fuel scarcity in Nusa Penida can soon be addressed,” Satria told reporters on Thursday (7/6/2026).

As an effort to anticipate fuel queues due to the surge in tourists, the Klungkung Regency Government (Pemkab) through the Transportation Agency (Dishub Klungkung) has requested that SPBU in Nusa Penida extend their opening hours.

“This is our plan, so we will write to request that several SPBU, which usually open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., can open until 12 midnight. So we are requesting an extension of their operating hours,” Satria explained.

In addition, Satria will also request that SPBU increase the stock of fuel sold. This step is expected to prevent queues caused by the large number of tourist transport vehicles.

The politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) considered these two steps important, given the surge in tourists during the high season from May to August.

“And we know the challenge in Nusa Penida is the large number of vehicles transporting tourists. Especially May, June, July, August, which is the high season. There can be 10,000 to 12,000 tourists arriving,” Satria added.

It was previously reported that the Nusa Penida tourist area in Klungkung, Bali, experienced a significant surge in tourist visits. This condition triggered long vehicle queues at several fuel filling points, even causing traffic jams on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

The vehicle queues were dominated by tourist transport cars snaking along the road shoulders. The worst density occurred at three main points, namely the Premium and Solar Oil Agency (APMS) Batumulapan, APMS Sental, and SPBU Banjar Nyuh.
