Satpol PP clamps down on PMKS and illegal parking during Ramadan
Jakarta — The Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP) conducted the Operation Bina Tertib Praja to bring under control Penyandang Masalah Kesejahteraan Sosial (PMKS) up to street vendors (PKL) who operate in prohibited locations and to curb illegal parking in and around Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. Endharwanto, head of the Satpol PP for Kramat Jati district, said the main targets were PMKS and PKL trading in restricted areas and illegal parking around Kramat Jati. He spoke to reporters in East Jakarta on Thursday. The operation involved 57 personnel from various agencies, including Satpol PP, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian Police (Polri), the Department of Transportation, Bina Marga and the Social Service. Specifically, six personnel from TNI/Polri, five from the Department of Transportation, three from Bina Marga, five from the Social Service and around 35 from Satpol PP. In addition, Endharwanto noted that the Bina Tertib Praja operation targeted several main road sections in Kramat Jati that frequently become sites of public order violations. The activity is part of efforts to maintain order in the area, particularly during Ramadan when activity by residents and seasonal traders increases at several road points. From the operation, officers netted seven PMKS. Six were documented and given socialisation because they held ID cards. One individual, a beggar who is ill and lacking an ID, was taken to Panti Sosial Cipayung for further treatment. In addition, authorities also tightened controls on street vendors selling in prohibited locations. They also dealt with illegal parking that could disrupt traffic flow. A total of eight vehicles were caught in the operation, comprising five bajajs and three four‑wheel vehicles. “For illegal parking there were eight vehicles—five bajajs and three four‑wheel vehicles. They were given warnings and socialisation to avoid parking indiscriminately,” Endharwanto said. Endharwanto added that the Bina Tertib Praja operation would continue periodically to ensure public order in the Kramat Jati district. “We urge the public to comply with applicable rules and not use the roads and footpaths for selling or parking indiscriminately to maintain collective comfort,” he said. “For area security, we have been operating since 1 February. We have three posts in Kramat Jati,” Endharwanto added. The posts are located at strategic points to monitor security and public order during Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr holidays. The security operation is being conducted in an integrated manner with police and local government apparatus and will continue until the end of the Eid al-Fitr holidays for 1447 Hijriah.
