Satelindo signs deal
KUALA LUMPUR (UPI): Malaysia's Cellular Communications Network Sdn. Bhd. signed yesterday a memorandum of understanding with PT Satelit Palapa Indonesia (Satelindo) to allow both to carry out joint telecommunications ventures.
Under the agreement, both Celcom and Satelindo would develop transmission facilities in Malaysia and deliver international direct-dialing services, a Celcom statement said.
The two companies also plan to develop and implement training programs for employees.
Satelindo is a joint venture between two state-owned telecommunication companies, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia and PT Indosat; a private national company, PT Bimagraha Telekomindo; and DeTeMob, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom of Germany.
"It is significant in that it has added yet another dimension to existing cooperation between the two countries, namely that of telecommunications," said Buharnudin Mohd Yusof, vice president of Celcom.
Celcom, which started off as a cellular telephone operator in 1989, is currently expanding into other telecommunications services.
