HONG KONG (AFP): Asia Satellite Telecommunications Co. Ltd.
(AsiaSat) said Thursday it has reached agreement with PT. Satelit
Palapa Indonesia (Satelindo) on providing mutual back-up support
for satellite control operations during emergencies.

Under the deal, both AsiaSat and Satelindo agreed to back-up
each other's tracking and monitoring facilities if there was any
failure in each company's control centers.

"Our co-operation with Indonesia's leading satellite operator
ensures our ability to offer reliable and uninterrupted service
on our satellite system," said Peter Jackson, AsiaSat chief
executive, in a statement.

Kanaka Hidayat, Satelindo general manager marketing, said "our
commitment to our customers goes beyond the boundaries of
nationalities".

"This is a giant step in co-operation among Asian satellite
operators," he said, "we hope this agreement sets a good example
in the Asian satellite communication industry".
