Satelindo adds network

JAKARTA (JP): PT Satelindo, a Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) operator, has installed a Main Switching Center in Semarang, Central Java, to improve its service there, one of its executives said.

Gamareza said in Semarang on Saturday that with the new switching center, Central Java and Yogyakarta would not have to depend on Jakarta.

He said that Satelindo would also open customer service offices in Central Java next month.

Competition in the cellular industry it getting tighter not only in Jakarta but also in North Sumatra, West, Central and East Java and Bali.

Satelindo competes directly against PT Telkomsel's KartuHalo and PT Excelomindo's GSM-XL.

Satelindo has listed 7,000 GSM subscribers in Central Java and Yogyakarta, Antara news agency quoted Gamareza as saying.

"We will double this figure by next year," he said. (icn)
