SARA issues
From Neraca
As a densely populated, complex country we have achieved huge
success in several fields. These advances are the result of hard
work by all parties in their effort to develop the nation.
Achievement was possible because of strong tolerance and
solidarity among the people.
However, lately our unity has been put to the test by certain
irresponsible persons acting in the name of tribal affiliations,
religion, race and societal groups (SARA). This has resulted in
the destruction of infrastructure, loss of life, loss of property
and work.
Material losses amounting to billions of rupiah could possibly
be replaced under the existing mutual cooperation plan of the
country. But, what about moral destruction of the nation,
especially among the younger generation who are yet to develop
self-assurance?
If there are no preventive actions or serious penalties
developed to quell rioting, it could well be that criminals with
a preying eye on the possessions of others will try to cash in on
the situation. They will take their chance to loot and destroy
amid the rioting they prompted themselves. They believe they
could escape the law, following all sorts of compromising
policies from power holders.
To cover their crime, the emotions of the masses can easily be
manipulated. Who is on the losing side then?
The achievements of 51 years of hard work could easily be
obliterated by riots of this nature.
