Denpasar (ANTARA) — A number of adat villages in Sanur, under the coordination of the Yayasan Pembangunan Sanur, are jointly presenting an Ogoh-ogoh Parade titled Sanur Metangi in the Pantai Mertasari tourism zone.

‘This is to support a range of community activities—from youth engagement to tourism—and with the creativity of the Ogoh-ogoh, Sanur also introduces Balinese art and culture to visitors,’ said Ida Bagus Gde Sidharta Putra, the Chair of the Yayasan Pembangunan Sanur.

Sidharta, in Denpasar on Thursday, noted that generally visitors to the Sanur area enjoy cultural tourism activities, so the parade also serves as free entertainment and to attract tourist attention.

The Sanur Metangi Ogoh-ogoh Parade is supported by the Intaran customary village, Sanur adat, Penyaringan adat, Sanur Kaja adat, Sanur Kelurahan, Sanur Kauh adat, Sabha Yowana Sanur, Sabha Yowana Intaran, Karang Taruna Sanur Kaja, Sanur Kauh and Sanur Kelurahan.

The pinnacle of the event will take place on 11-12 March 2026 at Pantai Mertasari, Sanur.

‘From clothing to other supporting accessories, youths will research how to craft the ogoh-ogoh—both in form and colour,’ he said.

The parade also features a blend of arts—from sculpture for crafting Ogoh-ogoh, to tabuh music for accompaniment, dance in segments, karawitan, costumes, and more.

Parade organiser Ida Bagus Prajiskana Jisnu added that the creativity event to welcome Nyepi comes with the Samuhita concept, meaning uniting all elements into one. Samuhita is aimed at uniting all youths across banjar in Sanur on one cultural stage.

‘This is not merely a competition but a unification event; we want to show that Sanur can be compact, with a spirit of togetherness. Sanur Metangi 2026 is expected to be a moment to revive youth creativity and strengthen Sanur’s image as a tourism area rooted in Bali’s cultural heritage,’ he said.

After selection by five independent judges from outside Sanur, 20 banjar were chosen as finalists for the main parade. The 20 finalists represent districts consisting of six banjar from Desa Dinas Sanur Kaja, six from Kelurahan Sanur, and eight from Sanur Kauh, which has the largest number of banjar.

The main parade is scheduled for 12 March 2026 in the Stock File area of Pantai Mertasari, though the day before the committee will hold mini-ogoh-ogoh judging and tapel, and a Sanur history discussion with figures who understand the development of Sanur from past to present as a premier tourism destination.

On the night of the parade, 20 ogoh-ogoh will perform in order of draw numbers; they will present ogoh-ogoh complete with fragmentari and baleganjur.

‘The parade begins around 16:00 WITA; the total prize money prepared by the committee is around Rp50 million. VIP guests will be charged Rp350,000, while the public can attend for free,’ he said.
