Jakarta (ANTARA) - Businessman and investor Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno believes that Indonesia’s green economy has bright prospects that could become a driving force for the national economy in the future. “I am very optimistic about this green economy; it is super prospective,” said Sandiaga when met during the MUTU Green Economic Series 2026 event in Jakarta on Wednesday. He stated that the combination of innovation, green financing, and policy reforms in the green economy can transform climate change risks into new economic opportunities. According to him, the green economy is not just a trend but a strategic direction for Indonesia’s progress, through its ability to drive growth while creating future jobs. The green jobs in question cover various fields, such as clean energy, environmental management, low-carbon technology, and sustainable tourism sectors. Furthermore, according to studies from the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) and the International Renewable Energy Agency, Indonesia’s total green economy potential reaches around Rp3,000 trillion to Rp4,000 trillion in the long term. That potential comes from renewable energy, the carbon economy, and sustainable resource management. In the global landscape, several green economy-based companies, particularly in the renewable energy sector, electric vehicles, and carbon management, have recorded significant business values. However, the former Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy assessed that the untapped opportunities are far greater, especially in developing carbon markets, carbon footprint accounting, carbon credit trading, and emission monitoring technology. Therefore, he encouraged the government to mature regulations regarding the green economy. The regulations drafted must be comprehensive and also address the provision of incentives for this economic sector. “Because the green economy is our economic future, it can provide jobs, and it is also good for sustainability,” he said.
