Sanctions for Sexual Violence Perpetrators at UI Law Faculty to Be Decided within 79 Days
Universitas Indonesia states that the handling of the sexual violence case at the Faculty of Law UI will be completed within 79 days. UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, said that the duration of the handling complies with Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation No. 55 of 2024 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education Environments.
The 79-day examination period began on Friday, 17 April 2026. Erwin dismissed claims that the case is progressing slowly due to external pressure or from the families of the alleged perpetrators. “This is indeed the handling time as mandated by the regulation,” he told Tempo on Friday, 24 April 2026.
Erwin explained that the handling has now entered the stage of separately examining the alleged perpetrators. The Sexual Violence Prevention Task Force will summon each perpetrator individually to obtain more in-depth statements regarding the role of each individual in the case.
Erwin acknowledged understanding the public’s demand for the perpetrators to be sanctioned quickly. However, he stated that the process requires considerable time given that there are 16 perpetrators involved.
“So this handling is different from ordinary administrative processes. We need very objective depth and attempt to technically verify digital evidence,” he said.
Previously, 16 students from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Indonesia were alleged to have committed sexual violence. They are suspected of having sexually toned conversations discussing other students in their internal group. Those conversations circulated on social media platform X via a post from the account @sampahfhui on Saturday, 11 April 2026.
The victim’s lawyer, Timotius Rajagukguk, revealed that there are 20 female students and 7 lecturers as victims of the alleged harassment. According to Timotius, the case has been occurring since 2025, and the victims became aware of the harassment in that year.
On 15 April, UI suspended the academic status of the 16 students alleged in the sexual violence case. The suspension of student status lasts from 15 April to 30 May 2026.
During the deactivation period, the alleged perpetrators are not permitted to participate in all educational activities and teaching and learning processes, including lectures, academic guidance, or other activities related to academic pursuits.
