Samsung Galaxy S26 Scanner Now Uses AI to Transform Crumpled Documents into Neat Scans in Seconds
San Francisco — Samsung is leveraging its Galaxy AI technology to enhance the document scanning feature on Galaxy S26 series smartphones.
The feature allows users to scan documents such as letters and identity cards directly through the phone’s camera. According to Samsung, Galaxy AI analyses the scanned content and produces clearer, neater results.
Crumpled original documents are transformed to appear as if scanned using professional equipment. The AI also removes any hands visible in the frame during scanning to optimise the final output.
Scanned documents from the Galaxy S26 series can be exported in PDF format for easier sharing whilst maintaining optimal quality.
Although often considered a minor feature, the development of this scanning capability required substantial time and effort. Sungdae Joshua Cho, Head of Visual Solution Team at Samsung Electronics, acknowledged the challenges during the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco on 24 February 2026.
“The development process was extremely difficult, as it required considerable time to remove fingers, eliminate creases at corners, and address other issues,” said Cho in an interview with Kompas.com correspondent Lely Maulida.
Whilst Cho did not disclose the exact development timeline, the feature now comes standard on the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Samsung has been developing camera technology for approximately 40 years. Cho noted that many engineers who previously developed DSLR cameras are still involved in developing cameras for Samsung Galaxy devices.
This decades-long development approach stems from Samsung’s belief that “every shot is a language of life”. The company aims to create Galaxy cameras capable of capturing users’ emotions and feelings at any moment—whether in daylight or darkness, in any environment, during any activity such as running or walking, and when zooming or using macro photography.
This philosophy underpins the Galaxy S26 camera development, which prioritises five pillars: the essence of life (lighting), human existence (bokeh and selfie), time continuity (day and night), creativity for all (Pro Mode), and artificial intelligence.
“Based on these principles, we have developed the Galaxy S26 series camera,” Cho stated.
