The Samarinda District Prosecutor’s Office in East Kalimantan has named and detained eight suspects in a case of alleged misuse of credit disbursement at Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Samarinda Branch, specifically at the Sei Pinang Dalam and Temindung units, between 2023 and 2025.

‘The suspects were named after the investigative team conducted a series of thorough, professional, and accountable examinations, upholding the principle of prudence and the presumption of innocence,’ said Mochamad Arifianto, Head of the Special Crimes Section at the Samarinda Prosecutor’s Office, after the detention on Wednesday evening.

Based on an examination by BRI’s Internal Audit Unit and a Public Accountant Office expert, the suspects are strongly believed to have committed unlawful acts by collaborating to manipulate the data and identities of prospective customers. This was done to meet the requirements for receiving People’s Business Credit (KUR) loans, with the aim of enriching themselves or others.

The eight suspects, all women, are identified by the initials WW, MGF, SM, NA, MA, AB, NL, and II. Two of the suspects, WW and MGF, are internal bank employees serving as marketing officers and credit initiators. The other six are external parties suspected of acting as intermediaries in arranging the loans.

Accompanied by Head of Intelligence Bara Mantio Irsahara, Arifianto explained that in 2024, at the BRI Sei Pinang Dalam Unit, suspect WW, as a KUR officer, together with AB, SM, II, and NL, submitted KUR applications for debtors who did not meet the requirements by involving third parties. These intermediaries sought out individuals willing to lend their identities in exchange for compensation, then forwarded the data to WW for credit processing. The process used documents and data that did not reflect the actual situation, including fabricated business permits and photos of houses and business premises that did not match real conditions. Once the loans were disbursed, the debtors’ bank books and ATM cards were controlled by the intermediaries, and the loan funds were used for the benefit of the parties involved.

‘Based on a Special Audit Investigation by BRI on 15-27 October 2025, 23 credit accounts were found to have been given to debtors who had no business, whose residential addresses did not match their ID cards, and whose application process involved third parties,’ he stated. These actions resulted in the misappropriation of KUR disbursements totalling Rp897.15 million, with initial state losses amounting to Rp338 million. The value of the state losses may increase as the investigation deepens.

Meanwhile, at the BRI Temindung Unit, suspect MGF and associates misappropriated KUR disbursements totalling Rp3.07 billion, with initial state losses valued at Rp1.14 billion.
