Samarinda (ANTARA) - The Samarinda city government in East Kalimantan has prepared a 13-hectare plot of land for the construction site of a Waste-to-Electricity Processing Facility (PSEL) at the Sambutan Final Disposal Site (TPA), as part of efforts to realise a circular economy. “The Sambutan TPA has a total land area of 13 hectares. Initially, 10 hectares were prepared for the PSEL, but after calculations, the core facility only requires 5 hectares, so the location is secure,” said Acting Head of the Samarinda Environmental Agency, Suwarso, in Samarinda on Wednesday. This environmentally friendly project, which converts waste into electricity, is fully supported by funding from the central government through the Nusantara Future Energy Investment Management Agency (Danantara). Meanwhile, the Samarinda city government must ensure site readiness and basic infrastructure such as road access and water sources, which have already been addressed by the city government, allowing Danantara’s PSEL construction to commence in 2027. “Field verification is crucial to ensure readiness for PSEL construction in Sambutan. The team also checked the land preparation and other supporting facilities they previously requested,” he said. The field verification confirmed that the requested land area is sufficient, the required water source is adequate, and 2 hectares for combustion waste processing have also been fulfilled. “Nevertheless, administratively, we are still awaiting the field verification results. In principle, all matters noted by the team from Jakarta have been fully addressed, so we are just waiting for the central government’s decision,” he stated.
