Samarinda Airport enhances passenger facilities ahead of Eid holiday exodus
To enhance passenger comfort, the currently available facilities include expanded shuttle corridors, improved terminal aesthetics, baby care rooms, and electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU), said Kadek Yuli Sastrawan, Head of Public Service Agency (BLU) UPBU Class I APT Pranoto I, at Samarinda on Monday.
Kadek added that the airport has also provided airline customer service areas, a children’s play area, smoking sections, shared work spaces, self-service check-in machines, overnight parking, ATM machines, and reorganised security screening procedures.
This continuous optimisation of waiting area comfort aligns with passenger traffic figures during the first ten days of Ramadan, or the period of 19 to 28 February, which recorded 15,913 passengers.
The overall number of passengers in the early period of this year’s Ramadan showed a decline of 26.27 per cent, or approximately 5,667 fewer passengers compared with the corresponding period last year.
The airport has assured continuous optimal service through six airlines operating with the highest frequency of flights to Jakarta at four times daily.
Given unpredictable weather conditions, aviation authorities have advised the public to anticipate potential ground transport disruptions caused by heavy rain or flooding by arriving at the terminal earlier than scheduled.
“Regarding projections of increased passenger flow ahead of the Eid holiday break, we have yet to receive any requests from airlines for additional flight schedules,” said Kadek.
