‘Sahur on the Road’ Event with Loud Music and Provocative Dancing in Jombang Goes Viral

A ‘sahur on the road’ (SOTR) parade featuring loud music and provocative dancing in Jombang, East Java, caused a stir and went viral on social media, prompting police intervention.

As reported by detikJatim, the Head of Ploso Police, Kompol Achmad Chairuddin, stated that the SOTR event was held without permission from the police or the local village government.

“Because it was held without permission, we did not allow it. The village head of Jatibanjar was also unaware and only found out from his residents,” Chairuddin said on Monday (23 February), as quoted by detikJatim.

Chairuddin also mentioned that a similar incident occurred during the first week of Ramadan last year. Therefore, the Ploso Police took preemptive measures to prevent it from happening again the following Sunday.

He affirmed that this Ramadan, they would take anticipatory measures. He stated that the Jombang Police Chief, AKBP Ardi Kurniawan, had urged the public not to hold events that would disrupt public order or tranquility during Ramadan.

“In the future, on Sunday mornings, we will anticipate by conducting joint patrols with the Kabuh Police and involving the village government. We urge the public that when going for morning walks after sahur, they should not use loud music,” he explained.

Chairuddin also expressed his disapproval of the presence of transgender individuals performing provocative dances at the SOTR event.

“According to information, it was spontaneous, and it is suspected that they were transgender individuals, but it is not appropriate to do such things during the fasting month,” he said.

The Secretary of Jatibanjar Village, Ploso District, Hengki, confirmed the SOTR event that took place on the road connecting his village and Sumbergondang on Sunday (22 February) morning. He emphasized that it was not the Jatibanjar Village Government that organized the SOTR event.

“(The provocative dancing) should not have happened; it is inappropriate to have such things during the fasting month,” he explained on Tuesday (24 February).

Separately, the owner of Aprelia Production, which provided the loud music for the event, Aprelia, explained that more than 10 sound systems participated in the SOTR event. She stated that the event was held without anyone renting the sound systems, as it was part of the regular ‘sahur on the road’ agenda carried out by sound communities in Jombang.

“No one rented the sound systems; the sound system owners in Jombang often participate in ‘sahur on the road’ events,” Aprelia explained.

Previously, a video went viral on social media showing thousands of people parading on motorcycles, following a vehicle carrying loud music.

They passed through villages and rice fields from early morning until it was bright. In one of the posts, a dancer wearing tight clothing was seen performing provocative dances in front of the Aprelia Production sound system. The dancer occasionally received tips from the crowd.

The event reportedly took place on Sunday (22 February) on the road connecting Jatibanjar Village, Ploso District, with Sumbergondang Village, Kabuh District, Jombang Regency, East Java.
