Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ahmad Sahroni, has urged the Yogyakarta Regional Police to thoroughly investigate the child abuse case that occurred at Daycare Little Aresha in Sorosutan, Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City.

In an official press release received in Jakarta on Saturday, Sahroni described the act as a cruel action that must be addressed legally.

“This is truly an unforgivable barbarity. I request that the Yogyakarta Police Chief give full attention to this case and secure all involved parties, from the leadership to the caregivers who are strongly suspected of abusing the children entrusted to them,” Sahroni stated in the press release.

According to Sahroni, all parties involved in this case must be investigated, including those behind the foundation managing the daycare.

Sahroni also heard reports that the foundation’s leadership is a law enforcement official.

As a member of Commission III, which oversees legal matters, he demanded that the law enforcement official be investigated in connection with this case.

“Information circulating indicates that the foundation’s leader is an active judge. If true, I request that the Judicial Commission and the Supreme Court dismiss the individual, and the police proceed with criminal charges. There is no room for forgiveness,” Sahroni emphasised firmly.

Sahroni also urged the police, through their Child Protection Unit (PPA), to enhance supervision of daycare operations in every region.

“It is also important for the police, through the PPA unit, to increase oversight of daycares that are proliferating, especially regarding permits. This is because, as we know, Daycare Little Aresha did not have a permit,” Sahroni concluded.

Based on gathered information, 53 children aged from 0 to toddlers entrusted at Daycare Little Aresha were victims of abuse. The police stated that the number of victims may still increase.

The abuse is suspected to have occurred since the daycare began operating for one year. To date, the Yogyakarta Police Resort is still examining several witnesses to complete the evidence.
