Safe stolen in Bali

DENPASAR, Bali: A safe containing cash in several currencies amounting to Rp 69 million (US$6,900) was stolen in a burglary from the office of the trading firm Bali Holding Company here.

According to the company's warehouse chief Putu Manda, 21, the office was burglarized at around 2 p.m. Monday

"When I left the office, I made sure all the doors and the front gate were locked. But when I returned several hours later, I found the lock on the gate broken," he said, adding that he was the only person guarding the office.

When he opened the gate, he explained, he saw an unidentified blue Kijang van in the parking lot. Suddenly, two men jumped him, dragged him inside the building and tied him up.

"There were around eight people inside and they carried the safe out," Putu said.

Denpasar Police chief Adj. Comr. Awang Joko Rumitro said that his men were still trying to trace the blue van.(zen)
