A sacrificial cow suddenly broke free and fled into the queue of vehicles stuck in traffic heading to Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

The incident involved a cow belonging to Musala Minhajut Tholab in Arum Barat Gang 2, Gilimanuk Village. The commotion began when the rope binding the cow snapped, leading to a chase between residents and the animal amid heavy traffic on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk route.

“The rope broke. The cow was circling before slaughter. When about to be slaughtered, the rope snapped and the cow fled onto the Denpasar-Gilimanuk route,” said Gilimanuk Village Head Ida Bagus Tony Wirahadikusuma.

Tony explained that upon seeing the cow run onto the main road and slip between vehicles waiting to leave Bali, locals immediately joined the pursuit. Thanks to community cooperation and assistance from port-area residents, the cow was successfully apprehended.

The sacrificial cow was caught near the entrance of Gilimanuk Port, close to the passenger terminal. “The cow escaped around 9:00 AM WITA and was recaptured near the passenger terminal around 11:00 AM WITA,” Tony added.

After causing chaos and requiring two hours to apprehend, the cow was returned for slaughter. Tony noted that the overall process of slaughtering sacrificial animals in Gilimanuk proceeded smoothly and concluded by midday.

“The slaughtering process in Gilimanuk lasted until 1:30 PM WITA,” he concluded.
