Sacrifice and Hajj Rituals for Inmates
Palembang Women’s Prison, Class IIA, South Sumatra, distributed nine sacrificial animals to inmates to mark Eid al-Adha 2026. Prison Chief Desi Andriyani said on Thursday, 28 May 2026, that the nine animals comprised two cows and seven goats. ‘These animals are distributed for all inmates to enjoy during the festive occasion,’ she said. In addition to slaughtering and distributing the animals, the prison facilitated religious observances with a communal Eid al-Adha prayer attended by staff and Muslim inmates. The initiative aims to strengthen faith and piety while fostering a sense of togetherness and family among inmates despite their incarceration. According to Andriyani, Eid al-Adha is not merely an annual ritual but an opportunity for inmates to reflect on sincerity and social compassion. The prison ensured all processes, from slaughter to distribution, were orderly and followed strict hygiene protocols. The meat will be prepared in the prison kitchen as a special festive meal for all inmates, aiming to alleviate their longing for celebrating Eid with family at home. A solemn and emotional atmosphere accompanied the celebrations. Palembang Women’s Prison remains committed to fulfilling inmates’ religious rights as part of its humanistic personality development programme.
