Ryamizard Ryacudu's Remains Arrive at Bogor Residence with Indonesian Flag-Draped Coffin
The remains of former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu arrived at the mourning residence in Puri Wira Bhakti Complex, Cikeas, Bogor.
The remains arrived from Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital around 5:00 PM WIB, with family and relatives already present at the site.
Mourners began reciting Quranic verses and prayers in front of the coffin draped in the red and white flag.
Ryamizard died at the age of 76 on Sunday, 31 May, passing away at 2:03 PM WIB while receiving treatment at Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital.
Born in Palembang, South Sumatra, on 21 April 1950, he concluded his military service as Army Chief of Staff during the presidency of Indonesia’s fifth leader, Megawati Soekarnoputri.
He was also the son-in-law of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, Try Sutrisno, while his father, Major General TNI Musanif Ryacudu, was a senior military officer known for his close ties to Indonesia’s first President, Sukarno.
During President Joko Widodo’s first term, Ryamizard was appointed Defence Minister. At the time, Widodo described him as a thoughtful and democratic military figure.
Previously, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo, Head of Information at the Ministry of Defence’s Secretariat, stated that the remains would be laid to rest before burial.
‘According to the family, the remains will be laid to rest at the mourning residence located at Puri Wira Bhakti Housing Estate 1/1b, Cikeas, Bogor,’ he told reporters on Sunday, 31 May.
