Russia Will Not Supply Weapons to Iran, Which Is at War — Here’s Why
The Kremlin or the Russian presidential office has explained why it is not supplying weapons to its close ally Iran, which is at war with the United States and Israel. The Kremlin said, as reported by Russian news agencies TASS and Reuters, on Friday, 6 March 2026, that Iran has not yet contacted Moscow to request any assistance, including arms. ‘Regarding the current situation, there has been no request from Iran,’ Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday, 5 March. ‘Our position is consistent and known to everyone. It remains unchanged,’ he stressed. Tensions in the Middle East have risen as the United States and Israel conducted a large-scale joint attack on Iran since Saturday, 28 February, local time, and the operation has continued to the present. In recent days, the forces of the two allied nations have attacked targets across Iran, including missiles, naval assets, and locations of military command and control. The strikes have killed several important figures and senior Tehran officials, including the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has responded with missile and drone strikes against targets in Israel and US bases in Gulf states. Russia, one of Iran’s closest allies, condemned the US-Israel strikes as ‘an act of armed aggression that was deliberate, planned, and without provocation’. President Vladimir Putin has offered condolences to Iran over what he called the ‘cynical killings’ of the late Khamenei. However, to date, Putin has not publicly commented on the US-Israel strikes ongoing against Iran.
