Russia warns of British and French plans to supply nuclear weapons to Ukraine
Moscow — Russia has accused Britain and France of threatening the entire nuclear non-proliferation regime after intelligence revealed that the two nations are preparing to supply Kiev with nuclear weapons.
“This information is extremely important,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday (24 February).
He described it as a serious violation of international law norms, including the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and stated that Russia would factor this information into its position in negotiations over Ukraine.
Earlier, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service stated that London and Paris were considering transferring nuclear weapons or related capabilities to Kiev because they assessed that what they termed as victory over Russia would have little chance of being achieved solely through Ukrainian armed forces.
The intelligence service stated that Germany had declined to participate in what it described as the “dangerous effort”.
The service also conveyed that London and Paris were arranging the transfer of such nuclear weapons and their delivery systems, including the covert transfer of components and related nuclear technology from Europe.
