Russia Observes US-Israel Actions, Warns of Ground Attack on Iran
Russia’s Security Council has warned Iran of potential ground operations by the United States (US) and Israel. The warning comes as negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue.
In its official statement, the body under the leadership of Russian President Vladimir Putin assessed that peace talks could be used as a loophole to prepare military steps.
“The US and Israel could use the peace talks to prepare ground operations against Iran,” the statement read, as quoted from RT on Saturday (18/4/2026).
This warning emerges alongside reports that the Pentagon continues to increase its military presence in the Middle East region, even as diplomatic channels remain open. Russia views this troop reinforcement as an indicator of a scenario for conflict escalation.
Meanwhile, tensions have risen following the joint US-Israel attack on Iran on 28 February, which occurred while negotiations on the nuclear programme were still underway. Previously, Israel had also attacked Iranian nuclear facilities in June, triggering a 12-day armed conflict.
Russia’s Security Council warns that if negotiations fail again, military escalation could increase significantly in a short time.
“If the negotiations fail to achieve the intended goals, hostilities could continue with greater intensity after two weeks,” the statement continued.
On the other hand, Iran has emphasised that it prefers a permanent resolution over merely extending a ceasefire. Tehran demands security guarantees, the lifting of sanctions, and the right to continue uranium enrichment for peaceful purposes.
Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf even warned of his country’s readiness to face a possible ground invasion.
“Iran is ready to face a ground attack and will rain them with fire,” he said.
He also affirmed that Tehran would not hesitate to retaliate by attacking energy infrastructure in Gulf countries if the conflict escalates.
Russia assesses that, despite the mounting pressure, Iran’s internal situation remains stable. The government and military are said to remain solid, with public support strengthening since the last attack one and a half months ago.
