Jakarta (ANTARA) - Russia and Belarus have stated their readiness to collaborate with Indonesia on developing space infrastructure and space exploration.

Encountered at the wreath-laying ceremony at the Yuri Gagarin Monument in Jakarta on Saturday, the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, said that Russia has extensive experience in building space infrastructure.

“We are currently building a new launch site in Russia’s Far East. This means we have a lot of skills and experience, and we are ready to collaborate,” said Ambassador Tolchenov in response to an ANTARA question.

According to Ambassador Tolchenov, Russia is currently negotiating with the Indonesian Government regarding the development of such infrastructure. He hopes that the negotiations will proceed constructively, allowing Russia to see what it can do for Indonesia.

According to Ambassador Ramanouski, space exploration is a highly promising area of cooperation for Indonesia and Belarus.

“Belarus has its own satellites that also cover Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, and we are very much looking forward to and open to collaborating with Indonesia in the field of space exploration,” said Ambassador Ramanouski.

Indonesia has long been exploring Biak Island as a site for launching communication satellites needed by Indonesia, as well as opening up possibilities for other countries to utilise the island as a satellite launch site.

The development of the Spaceport has a strong legal foundation, including Law No. 21 of 2013 on Space Activities, Presidential Regulation No. 45 of 2017 on the Master Plan for Space Activities 2016-2040, and Government Regulation No. 7 of 2023 on Space Technology Mastery, which emphasises technology safeguard aspects.
