Rupiah Weakens as Honda Keeps Spare Parts Prices Steady
Jakarta, Kompas.com – The weakening of the rupiah against the United States dollar (USD) is beginning to put pressure on the domestic automotive industry. This condition not only affects the import activity of vehicles and components, but also influences domestic production costs which remain reliant on USD-based raw materials.
Nevertheless, PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) has confirmed that it does not intend to raise the prices of spare parts or Honda’s after-sales products in the near term.
‘The exchange rate indeed remains one of the factors influencing the automotive industry,’ said Yusak Billy, Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director of HPM, to Kompas.com not long ago.
‘Thus the current rupiah depreciation will certainly put pressure, both on import activities and on several components and raw materials produced domestically which are still affected by USD movements,’ he said.
This condition opens up the potential for price increases of spare parts and maintenance costs for vehicles. However, to date, Honda has maintained its after-sales product prices amid the rupiah’s weakness.
This step is considered important to preserve consumer purchasing power, particularly for owners who regularly service at official workshops.
‘For now we do not have any plans to adjust prices, but we will continue to monitor market conditions and exchange-rate developments going forward,’ Billy said.
The statement shows that Honda remains choosing a wait-and-see strategy while monitoring rupiah movements and the national automotive market conditions.
