The Banjarangkan Village Government (Pemdes), Banjarangkan Subdistrict, Klungkung, will soon close its Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). This step is being taken to address the rubbish odour problem that has been disturbing pupils. The issue briefly went viral on social media.

Observations by detikBali found that the Banjarangkan Village TPST is located right next to SDN 3 Banjarangkan. As a result, when piles accumulate, the rubbish odour spreads to the school environment.

Banjarangkan Village Head AA Gde Indrawan Diputra explained that his side has already addressed the problem. In addition to cleaning the rubbish piles that caused the odour and disturbed pupils and teachers at SDN 3 Banjarangkan, they have also taken steps to halt the delivery of waste to the TPST.

“So, we will close this TPST. All waste from this village will then be transported to the TOSS Centre in Karangdadi,” Indrawan explained to detikBali on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

The village hopes that the new pyrolysis machine at the TOSS Centre Karangdadi can soon operate. Thus, there will be no more waste that needs to be brought to the TPST.

“Later here only organic [waste]. But of course, our challenge is to educate the community to process their waste,” Indrawan added.

So far, they are still implementing a sanitary landfill system or layered landfilling of waste with soil. He hopes there will be no more open dumping. However, if by August the TOSS Centre is still not ready, Indrawan threatens to stop collecting waste.

“So this until 1 August we will see. If there is still no solution, I will also stop collecting waste. Because what else, there is no solution other than open dumping,” he clarified.

Indrawan denied ignoring reports from SDN 3 Banjarangkan. Every report, he continued, the village always forwards it to the Klungkung Environment and Land Office (DLHP).

“This moment (going viral) also serves as a reminder for us to once again raise awareness among the community to sort waste,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Principal of SDN 3 Banjarangkan, Ni Wayan Srinati, stated that it is true that on 7 May, they sent pupils home because they were disturbed by the rubbish odour from the TPST.

“This is the first time the odour was quite disturbing. Previously, it wasn’t that strong. So at that time we sent them home. Now it’s no longer the case because the village side has immediately addressed it. The information is that it has also been closed,” Srinati explained.

The incident went viral after one of the parents shared a conversation containing complaints in a WhatsApp group. Currently, the school conditions are assured to no longer be disturbed by rubbish odours from the TPST area.
