Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that waste deliveries from Jakarta to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST) would be restricted following a landslide in zone 4A due to severely limited capacity.

“Bantargebang must begin imposing restrictions because its capacity is severely limited. Whilst waiting for zone 4A to be restored, waste deliveries will be redirected to zone 3 and two new zones currently being prepared as temporary locations,” Pramono said in an official statement on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

Pramono made this announcement after conducting a direct inspection of the landslide site at TPST Bantargebang in Ciketing Udik Village, Bantargebang District, Bekasi City, West Java. During the inspection, Pramono also ordered the immediate normalisation of the Ciketing River.

The river had been blocked by landslide materials, disrupting water flow and road access in the surrounding area. “I have decided to immediately normalise the Ciketing River. The benefits to residents are substantial, because if the river flow is blocked, road access in the surrounding area is also hindered,” he said.

TPST Bantargebang receives approximately 7,400 to 8,000 tonnes of waste from Jakarta daily. As a result, the local government will also promote waste sorting to reduce the burden on the treatment facility.

As a medium-term solution, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing the operational deployment of the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Rorotan facility in North Jakarta. The facility is currently in the testing and operational preparation stage with experts to ensure safe functioning and minimal impact on residents.

Pramono targets the RDF Rorotan facility to help reduce approximately 1,000 to 1,500 tonnes of waste per day from Jakarta. He hopes the commissioning process will be completed soon so the facility can operate normally.

The landslide in zone 4A at TPST Bantargebang is believed to have been triggered by extreme rainfall on Sunday, 8 March 2026, with rainfall reaching 264 millimetres per day. The landslide material blocked the operational road and the Ciketing River for approximately 40 metres.

The DKI Jakarta Environmental Affairs Service activated emergency response operations to handle casualties, stabilise the landslide area, and restore waste management services. The evacuation process was supported by 19 excavators and seven ambulance units deployed to the location.

The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) DKI Jakarta found the body of another victim buried under the Bantargebang waste pile. “One body was found this afternoon, bringing the total to five people who have died,” said Romli Prasetyo, spokesperson for Basarnas DKI Jakarta, on Monday.

To date, rescue personnel continue to search for four additional people believed to still be buried. “So far, four people have been rescued,” he said.

Basarnas DKI Jakarta reported that 13 people were victims of the waste pile landslide. Four survivors were Budiman, Joha, Safifudin, and Slamet.

The deceased victims were warung owner Enda Widayanti, warung owner Sumine, truck drivers Dedi Sutrisno and Irwan Supriatin. “Plus one additional body that was just found by personnel. We are still searching for four victims who have not yet been found,” said Romli.
