The Jakarta Provincial Government is taking swift action following a landslide at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) in Bekasi City on Sunday, 8 March 2026, which claimed four lives. Asep Kuswanto, Head of Jakarta’s Environmental Services, announced that waste deliveries to the affected area have been temporarily suspended.

Kuswanto stated that the Jakarta District Environmental Services will continue the suspension of waste deliveries until victim evacuation operations are completed. The measure was adopted to ensure that the waste transport system continues to function smoothly and to minimise queuing of trucks during the evacuation process.

“Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to handling this situation swiftly, carefully, and in a coordinated manner,” he said in a statement on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Asep emphasised that the government is not only focused on safety and victim assistance. He noted that public services related to waste management continue to operate. This is being achieved by opening one temporary disposal point at the Bantargebang TPST at night.

“To maintain the smooth operation of waste truck routes from Jakarta. Meanwhile, two other disposal points remain in the process of finalisation,” he said.

Additionally, Asep reported that area stabilisation measures have been undertaken to prevent further landslides. He explained that staged reinforcement and stabilisation of the landfill zone is being carried out to ensure the landfill structure becomes stable and safe quickly.

In the evacuation operation, five out of seven trucks have been evacuated by joint personnel. Search operations for five missing victims continue. Rescue and evacuation efforts are being conducted using dozens of excavators to clear the landslide material.
