RP sets 24-day cease-fire
MANILA (Reuter): Philippine President Fidel Ramos said yesterday he had approved a unilateral 24-day cease-fire against communist rebels to mark the Christmas season.
Ramos told a news conference the ceasefire would start on Dec. 16, the start of a series of Roman Catholic dawn masses in Asia's only mainly Christian country.
The government has been holding peace talks with the rebels since Ramos took office in 1992.
