RP oil wells increasing production
MANILA (AFP): The Philippines' only commercially-producing oil
site has increased production to 6,600 barrels per day (bpd) and
hopes to be back to 7,500 bpd by the end of the month, Energy
Undersecretary Rufino Bomasang said here yesterday.
The production site, in the West Linapacan field off the coast
of the western island of Palawan, dropped production from 15,000
bpd to 3,500 bpd last year due to water intrusion. The consortium
later flowed oil in a sidetrack well.
Bomasang said Alcorn (Production) Philippines Inc., the
operator of the field, was limiting production to avoid drawing
water into the well again, adding that if the company wanted to
increase production drastically, it would have to drill more
wells in the area.
