RP denies training with Taipei
MANILA (Reuter): The Philippine military yesterday denied
reports it had agreed to a joint training program with Taiwan's
air force.
"The AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) has no knowledge
about it... We are fully aware of the one-China policy. We will
abide by the one-China policy," AFP spokesman Lt. Col. Leopoldo
Maligalig told reporters.
He added that the military had not received any request for
such a program.
Taiwan's Liberty Times, quoting an unnamed, high-level
military official, said on Monday that the two armed forces had
reached an agreement for an exchange program and Taiwan would
send fighter pilots to the Philippines for training in July this
year.
The Philippines does not maintain diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
It only recognizes the government in Beijing.
