Rp 25 coin

From Neraca

The government needs to review the policy of issuing a Rp 25
coin. On a day to day basis it is rarely used. In fact it is
difficult to spend a Rp 25 coin as most traders are reluctant to
accept them. Even in buses these coins are hardly seen.

But I notice that many supermarkets still use the coins for
small change. Some shops prefer to use candies to replace Rp 25
coins for small change. As a result of this social reluctance to
use these particular coins, some people have a great number of
the coins at home which remain unused. They are no more than a
toy for small children.

Frankly, I don't know whether or not these coins are still
used in the provinces outside Jakarta for daily business
transactions. But just imagine how much money is idle if each
family throughout the archipelago possesses just one coin. This
is a great loss to the country. Yet we still have three more
coins of smaller denominations -- Rp 10, Rp 5 and Rp 1. What has
happened to them? This means that the value of the rupiah has
decreased by 25 times.
