Royal Enfield Opens Opportunity for Motorcycle Assembly in Indonesia
JAKARTA – Royal Enfield, the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer, is exploring the opportunity to assemble motorcycles in Indonesia as the premium motorcycle market develops in the country.
However, according to Anindya Dwiastiti, Regional Marketing Manager for Asia-Pacific, plans for local assembly remain under consideration and no final decision has been made by the company.
“So far, all our products are still imported in complete form (completely built up), CBU entirely. We can only hope (for local assembly),” she said in Jakarta on Thursday (13 March 2026).
According to her, the decision to undertake local assembly will consider various factors, including market development and the potential sales volume in Indonesia.
Currently, all Royal Enfield motorcycles sold in Indonesia are imported directly from India. This distribution model was chosen because it is considered more efficient compared to sourcing units from other countries that already conduct assembly operations.
This includes from the Southeast Asian region, namely Thailand, which has already assembled Royal Enfield motorcycles on a completely knocked-down (CKD) basis.
“So naturally there would be additional costs such as labour and so forth. Thus we decided to source directly from India,” she explained.
Royal Enfield has been present in Indonesia for approximately one decade and markets various models in the mid-range to premium segments. To date, sales of the brand’s motorcycles in the country have exceeded 6,000 units.
