Route to Dieng Plateau Allegedly Cut Off, Wonosobo Regency Government Says Tourist Access Remains Open and Safe
Contrary to social media reports that the road to the Dieng Plateau tourism area is cut off, this is not entirely correct. The Wonosobo Regency Government emphasised that the main access route to the tourism area remains safe and comfortable for visitors. Local authorities, together with related parties, continue to ensure smooth travel along the Dieng route, especially via the Wonosobo region, one of the main access points for tourists.
‘The route to Dieng via Wonosobo, whether from Wonosobo City or via the alternative Temanggung route via Tambi, is in safe condition and passable,’ Fahmi said in an official release received by Kompas.com on Saturday (7 March 2026). He also noted that the main Wonosobo–Dieng route is now even more comfortable to traverse after road repairs.
In addition to the main route from the city, tourists can also use an alternative from Temanggung to Dieng via the Tambi area, Wonosobo. This route is known as a favourite for its scenic mountain landscapes.
The fastest route from Temanggung to Dieng can be taken via Ngadirejo–Canggal, about 47 kilometres, with an travel time of around 1.5 hours. Along the journey, travellers will be treated to lush scenery, including tea plantations along the Tambi Tea Plantation area. The government has also widened the road at several points on this route, especially near the Sikathok Tea Plantation area.
Another alternative is the Temanggung–Kledung–Candiyasan route towards the Blembem tourism area. This route also offers mountainous scenery and passes several tourist destinations such as Telaga Bedakah and the Gunung Cilik area before reaching the Dieng area.
