Rosan Asks PLN to Improve Its Electricity Emergency Plan
Investment and Downstreaming Minister and Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chief Rosan Roeslani has asked state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) to strengthen its emergency response plans to anticipate disruptions to Indonesia’s power supply. He made the request after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (14 October 2026), where they discussed the company’s transformation and operational readiness, Money reported.
Rosan said PLN’s existing contingency arrangements needed to be evaluated and improved so that the company would be better prepared for events that could disrupt electricity services.
He said emergency preparedness was one aspect that needed attention as part of PLN’s operational review.
“We must always be prepared for every situation and have contingency plans. One thing PLN may also need to prepare is what its backup plan would be if an incident like that occurred,” Rosan said.
He stressed that simply having contingency mechanisms was not enough unless they were backed by adequate preparation for a range of emergency situations.
“Yes, perhaps—not perhaps, it certainly already has one—but it needs to be improved,” Rosan said.
The meeting with President Prabowo also covered a comprehensive overhaul of PLN’s business model, alongside preparedness for power disruptions. The review is intended to improve the company’s efficiency and productivity.
Rosan said Danantara would carry out an assessment and coordinate with PLN’s management. The findings would be developed into transformation proposals and subsequently submitted to the President.
The proposed transformation would include more efficient corporate management, with the aim of delivering positive effects for the national economy.
PLN President Director Suroso Isnandar also explained the cause of a power supply disruption in Batam. He said the outage stemmed from a problem with one of the transformers, affecting services to the public.
Suroso said PLN was investigating the cause of the disruption and reviewing its electrical equipment to improve service reliability.
“We recognise that many things need to be improved, including what happened in Batam, where a fault in one transformer caused an outage that reduced services to the public,” Suroso said.
He also called for support for PLN to review the electrical equipment it uses. The review is needed to ensure infrastructure readiness keeps pace with growth in electricity demand.
