Investment and Downstreaming Minister and Investment Coordinating\nBoard (BKPM) chief Rosan Roeslani has asked state-owned electricity\ncompany PT PLN (Persero) to strengthen its emergency response plans to\nanticipate disruptions to Indonesia\u2019s power supply. He made the request\nafter a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace in\nJakarta on Wednesday (14 October 2026), where they discussed the\ncompany\u2019s transformation and operational readiness, Money reported.<\/p>\n
Rosan said PLN\u2019s existing contingency arrangements needed to be\nevaluated and improved so that the company would be better prepared for\nevents that could disrupt electricity services.<\/p>\n
He said emergency preparedness was one aspect that needed attention\nas part of PLN\u2019s operational review.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must always be prepared for every situation and have contingency\nplans. One thing PLN may also need to prepare is what its backup plan\nwould be if an incident like that occurred,\u201d Rosan said.<\/p>\n
He stressed that simply having contingency mechanisms was not enough\nunless they were backed by adequate preparation for a range of emergency\nsituations.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, perhaps\u2014not perhaps, it certainly already has one\u2014but it needs\nto be improved,\u201d Rosan said.<\/p>\n
The meeting with President Prabowo also covered a comprehensive\noverhaul of PLN\u2019s business model, alongside preparedness for power\ndisruptions. The review is intended to improve the company\u2019s efficiency\nand productivity.<\/p>\n
Rosan said Danantara would carry out an assessment and coordinate\nwith PLN\u2019s management. The findings would be developed into\ntransformation proposals and subsequently submitted to the\nPresident.<\/p>\n
The proposed transformation would include more efficient corporate\nmanagement, with the aim of delivering positive effects for the national\neconomy.<\/p>\n
PLN President Director Suroso Isnandar also explained the cause of a\npower supply disruption in Batam. He said the outage stemmed from a\nproblem with one of the transformers, affecting services to the\npublic.<\/p>\n
Suroso said PLN was investigating the cause of the disruption and\nreviewing its electrical equipment to improve service reliability.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe recognise that many things need to be improved, including what\nhappened in Batam, where a fault in one transformer caused an outage\nthat reduced services to the public,\u201d Suroso said.<\/p>\n
He also called for support for PLN to review the electrical equipment\nit uses.
