Robbers make off with gold jewelry

JAKARTA (JP): Six burglars armed with sharp weapons broke into a house in the Budi Agung housing complex in Bogor, some 60 km from here, early Saturday morning, making off with 30 grams in gold jewelry and Rp 500,000 in cash.

Herman, the house owner, told police that four of the robbers entered the living room while he was lighting a candle after the electricity suddenly went out.

Herman, who owns a car repair workshop, said the one who first saw the robbers was his mother, 50-year-old Mrs. Kusuma. She screamed for help but she was soon gagged by one of the robbers.

Hearing the noise, Herman's father Gunawan, 55, tried to help his wife but he was soon overpowered. Two of the robbers pointed their knives at Gunawan's stomach, while another one seized him by the collar.

The unidentified robbers then entered Herman's bedroom. The couple was rendered helpless at knife point and one of the robbers snatched the wife's necklace. They then ransacked the bedroom, stealing Rp 500,000 in cash.

Police are still investigating the robbery. (bas)
