Road in Kalideres Flooded by Sewage Water, City Government Finds Drainage Clogged with Trash and Mud
JAKARTA — The West Jakarta City Government reviewed a damaged road that frequently floods with sewage water on Jalan Satu Maret, Pegadungan Sub-district, Kalideres District, on Friday afternoon (6 March 2026). The review followed residents’ complaints about odorous sewage water pooling on the road since work began on PAM Jaya’s clean-water pipe installation project.
West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah said field checks showed the flooding was caused by a blocked drainage channel. In addition to clogged drains, the road’s contour, which forms a depression, was deemed to worsen the condition. The road’s shape makes water prone to be trapped, thereby damaging the asphalt surface.
Iin said a joint team from the Water Resources Office (SDA), Public Works (Bina Marga), PPSU, and PAM Jaya had been dispatched to tackle the issue. “The integrated team is carrying out a mass drainage flushing to normalise the drainage function,” she said.
Going forward, the West Jakarta City Government also plans to raise the road level at the site after PAM Jaya’s piping project is completed. The measure would improve the road’s depressed elevation to prevent future pooling.
Meanwhile, PAM Jaya Senior Manager UPL Ferdian Avrizal explained that the trenching work in the area is part of a project to provide clean water installations for residents of Jakarta. He said works in the area from Jalan Peta Selatan to Jalan Satu Maret are targeted for completion by the end of April 2026. “We seek the understanding and cooperation of all residents and road users. During the mudik and Lebaran holidays (Eid al-Fitr), all trench openings will be reinforced and temporarily closed to minimise congestion,” Ferdian said.
