Riva Siahaan and Associates Face 14-Year Prison Demand in Fuel Corruption Case
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – Defendant Riva Siahaan, former President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, was sentenced to 14 years in prison in the corruption case involving crude oil and refinery product management at PT Pertamina (Persero). He was prosecuted alongside two other defendants: Maya Kusmaya, former Director of Central Marketing and Trading at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, and Edward Corne (EC), former VP of Trading Operations at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga.
“[Requesting the panel of judges] impose a criminal sentence on defendant Riva Siahaan of 14 years in prison, reduced by the time the defendant has spent in detention, with the order that the defendant remain in custody at the detention center,” the prosecutor said while reading the charges at a hearing at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Friday (2/13).
Riva and his co-defendants were also ordered to pay a fine of Rp 1 billion, with the provision that failure to pay will be substituted with 190 days of imprisonment.
Additionally, prosecutors demanded that Riva and associates pay Rp 5 billion in restitution. If the defendants fail to pay the restitution within one month of the verdict, prosecutors may seize and auction the defendants’ assets. If the defendants have insufficient assets to cover the restitution, they will be sentenced to an additional 7 years in prison.
In this case, including Riva and associates, a total of 18 individuals were named suspects by the Attorney General’s Office. They were charged with enriching themselves, others, or corporations, causing state losses of up to Rp 285.18 trillion. One of the suspects is the son of Riza Chalid, Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza. Meanwhile, Riza Chalid himself remains a fugitive on the wanted persons list.
