Rise in Suicide Incidents Prompts Bandung City Government to Tighten Patrols on Pasupati Flyover
Bandung City Government in West Java says it is tightening patrols on Jalan Layang Prof Mochtar Kusumaatmadja, also known as Pasupati Flyover, to prevent suicide attempts that have frequently occurred in the area. Mayor of Bandung Muhammad Farhan said patrols by the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) have been conducted for about a week in the Pasupati Flyover area.
“Since last week we have intensified patrols in the surrounding area (Pasupati Flyover). It turns out that the rate of suicide in Bandung City has become worrying,” Farhan said in Bandung on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
He noted that during the patrols officers had prevented two people suspected of intending to commit suicide.
According to Farhan, patrols are conducted intensively at several high-risk points, not only on the flyover but also at other locations with potential for similar acts.
“Very intensive. For some schools, I ask schools and campuses to also safeguard the security of their tall buildings. There was once a case of a female student throwing herself from a high building,” he said.
In addition, he asked shopping centres and retail outlets to increase supervision to prevent similar incidents.
“We will also ensure that shopping centres are patrolled; there should be no more suicides in shopping centres,” Farhan said.
On the other hand, the Bandung City Government is also strengthening prevention efforts through an educational approach in the educational environment.
Mental health development programmes are being implemented in schools, including training for Guidance Counselors (BK) carried out in cooperation with psychology academics and clinical psychologists.
