Ring road safety questioned
Ring road safety questioned
From Kompas
As a user of the Serpong-Kampung Rambutan Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR), I feel concerned about the presence of lots of dead animals on the road along the Serpong-Pondok Ranji section of the turnpike.
The dead animals, mostly cats and dogs run over by cars, can be seen almost everyday. They disrupt traffic and endanger the lives of drivers trying to avoid the carcasses by changing lanes. They are also unpleasant to look at.
This section of road is not illuminated at night so that road users have to rely on their own headlights. In fact, it was previously lit up but the lights were turned off following this year's fuel price hikes.
In addition, people frequently cross the turnpike, thus further endangering road users, and themselves. Therefore, the management of JORR -- which has some of the most expensive tolls in the country -- should give priority to user safety.
Banners along the road boast of the availability of ambulances, regular patrols, tow trucks and other facilities. But what about safeguards such as proper road signs and lights: Are these at the bottom of the list of priorities?
