Rights violations in Jepara

SEMARANG: The National Commission on Human Rights plan another investigation into the alleged violation of human rights during election campaigns in Jepara last month.

Commission member Muladi said yesterday the first probe conducted in Jepara on May 30 was not adequate enough to draw conclusions and make recommendations.

The commission sent a fact-finding team to Jepara following reports that security officers mistreated and illegally detained 23 United Development Party (PPP) supporters.

Muladi said he planned another investigation that would focus on the alleged mistreatment, arrest without warrant and illegal detention of the PPP supporters.

He said PPP supporters also violated human rights when they assaulted Corporal Harwanto during the street rallies. (har)
