Ride-hailing Raya Bonus Paid Out, Some Receive Rp150,000 to Rp900,000
An Indonesian online motorcycle taxi drivers have finally received the Hari Raya Allowance (BHR) from the apps ahead of Eid al-Fitr. The incentive claimed as a form of appreciation by the apps to drivers varies, from Rp 200,000 to Rp 900,000. Teguh (36), an ojol driver who frequently circulates in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, pocketed Rp 250,000 BHR. ‘I got my THR of Rp 250,000, it was transferred yesterday. So as a driver I have been 11 years in total, since the early days,’ Teguh told Kompas.com on Friday (6 March 2026). He explained that the amount of BHR received by each driver varies greatly. The operator applies a tier system ranging from Harapan, Andalan, to Jawara that depends heavily on monthly driver performance to determine the incentive amount. ‘Some can get Rp 400,000, Rp 500,000, the maximum is Rp 900,000. The difference comes from performance. There are levels. So each level gets a different THR,’ he explained. The drivers must maintain the highest level, namely ‘Jawara’, for the full 12 months in a year. This means drivers must clear all orders without rejecting or cancelling. ‘Yesterday I was Jawara for only 4 months, the rest not. So I got Rp 250,000. If you want to get Rp 200,000 at a minimum you must be Jawara 4 times,’ he said. A similar complaint was voiced by Amri (35), another ojol driver who received BHR around Rp 200,000. In his view, the apps’ demand that drivers avoid cancelling orders to preserve ‘Jawara’ status is not realistic given field conditions. ‘The problem is it’s hard to be a driver; sometimes you have to decline if you can’t. For example, yesterday there was flooding, so there were lots of cancellations because customers don’t know it’s flooded there. If your motor is damaged, your performance drops due to cancellations,’ Amri said. ‘If a customer cancels we get penalised. Even though it’s the customer who cancels, our performance also falls. So trying to guard Jawara for a year is hard; I just go with the flow,’ he said. On the other hand, several drivers say they did not receive BHR. One of them is Setiawan, who felt disappointed not to receive BHR despite government urging all apps to provide incentives.
