Ride-hailing driver files police report after being accused of stealing gaming account
Jakarta – A ride-hailing driver with the initials LPT (41) has filed a report with the Depok Metropolitan Police Resort after his reputation was damaged by accusations that he stole a gaming account from a TikTok account holder.
LPT’s legal representative, Risky Nugroho, outlined the chronology of the case, which began when his client was waiting for passengers in the Depok area, specifically in a residential neighbourhood behind a shopping centre in Cibubur on Wednesday, 25 February.
“Whilst waiting for a passenger, the ride-hailing application indicated that a passenger wanted to book a ride. LPT then communicated with the taxi booker, known as the customer (account buyer),” he stated in his account in Jakarta on Monday.
During the conversation, the customer did not ask LPT to pick him up. Instead, he asked LPT to convey a surprise birthday gift message to his younger sibling (the account seller).
“He then asked him to pretend to be a prospective buyer of a Mobile Legends (ML) gaming account to the person who was the target of the surprise birthday mentioned,” he said.
The request was made without a complete explanation of the purpose, intention, or possible consequences.
In exchange for LPT’s willingness to follow the scenario, he was promised a tip of Rp100,000. “The customer (account buyer) also provided additional information along with his younger sibling (account seller),” he stated.
Risky stated that at the time of the incident, LPT believed and fully understood that his actions were solely a form of assistance in response to the customer’s request to make the birthday surprise successful for his younger sibling.
Subsequently, the customer asked LPT to switch the conversation to a WhatsApp account. “When LPT arrived and entered the rented house, he immediately spoke to the occupant and claimed to be an ML account buyer,” he said.
“However, the gaming account seller suddenly asked LPT to transfer Rp34 million as payment for the Mobile Legends account. LPT was confused because this was outside the scenario the customer had explained,” he added.
Confused and panicked, LPT attempted to explain that he had been instructed by someone who had booked the ride online, known as the customer (account buyer), to pretend to be a gaming account buyer.
Not only that, the following day, Thursday, 26 February, LPT, who works not only as a ride-hailing driver but also as a server at a place of worship, learned from worshippers that he had gone viral on TikTok.
In the video, he was accused of stealing an ML account by the account owner. Not only was the video of LPT inside the rented house uploaded to social media and went viral, but also videos of a heated argument as LPT’s friends attempted to collect him.
“We see this as a phenomenon of ‘trial by social media,’ where someone is seemingly judged guilty before any legal proceedings,” said Risky Nugroho.
Before pursuing legal action, LPT, through his legal representative, first issued a formal notice on 28 February 2026, which contained a request for clarification and an apology from the TikTok account holder.
However, the respondent refused to provide clarification or comply with the request.
The report was recorded under case number LP/B/473/III/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO DEPOK/POLDA METRO JAYA.
