Richard Lee attended a follow-up examination as a suspect in an alleged health and consumer protection violation case at Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) headquarters on Thursday (19 February).

This was Richard’s second examination as a suspect. He was first questioned in that capacity on Wednesday (7 January), during which he answered only 73 of 85 questions, necessitating the follow-up session.

“I have come to fulfil my obligation as a good citizen. I am ready to provide the clearest and most honest account of the products I sell,” Richard said.

Richard also claimed that all the beauty products he sells are legal and have received permits from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).

“All the products I sell are legal, BPOM-registered, and manufactured in accordance with prevailing regulations. I have never sold unlicensed products that could potentially endanger the public,” he said.

Richard also expressed sadness that the case ensnaring him involves a fellow medical practitioner. The case was reported by Samira Farahnaz, also known as the “detective doctor” (doktif).

“Personally, what saddens me is that this conflict involves two doctors, two colleagues, two professionals who both sell skincare products and have ended up filing reports against each other, both becoming suspects,” he said.

The case against Richard originated from a complaint filed by Samira Farahnaz on 2 December 2024, registered under number LP/B/7317/XII/2024/SPKT at Polda Metro Jaya.

Following investigation and inquiry proceedings, police designated Richard as a suspect in the alleged health and consumer protection violation. He has held suspect status since 15 December 2025.

In this case, Richard has been charged under Article 435 in conjunction with Article 138 paragraph 2 of Law Number 17 of 2023 on Health, which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to Rp5 billion.

Additionally, Richard has been charged under Article 62 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 8 paragraph 1 and/or Article 9 paragraph 1 of Law Number 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to Rp2 billion.

In the wake of his suspect designation, Richard filed a pre-trial challenge at the South Jakarta District Court. However, the challenge was dismissed.

Polda Metro Jaya has also imposed a travel ban on Richard. The travel ban was issued on 10 February.

“The prevention and deterrence order, commonly known as a travel ban, has been in effect from 10 February 2026 until 1 March 2026, for the next 20 days,” said Budi at Polda Metro Jaya on Wednesday (11 February).
