Rice Stocks Secure, Bulog Ensures Even Distribution of 4.6 Million Tonnes
Perum Bulog has emphasised its ongoing efforts to maintain national food security amid the rising potential for prolonged drought due to the El Niño phenomenon.
The current national rice stock levels are described as very strong and under control, providing a solid foundation to face climate pressures and global dynamics.
Perum Bulog’s President Director, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, stated that amid the potential for prolonged drought from El Niño, the national rice availability is currently well-maintained. The rice reserves are recorded at around 4.6 million tonnes and are projected to meet needs for the next 11 months.
“This strengthening of stocks is supported by the absorption of domestic farmers’ harvests as well as the management of Government Rice Reserves by Perum Bulog, which continues to ensure that supplies remain evenly available to all corners of Indonesia,” said Ahmad Rizal in a written statement on Thursday (9/4/2026).
He emphasised that despite the real threats of El Niño, the national rice stock condition remains in a safe position.
“The national rice stock condition is ensured to be safe for the next 11 months. El Niño is estimated to last six months, so insyaallah our food is secure,” said Ahmad Rizal.
Ahmad conveyed that the achievement of high rice stocks is the result of strong synergy between the government and various stakeholders, particularly in optimising the absorption of domestic farmers’ harvests.
“With these strong rice stocks, we are optimistic about supporting the realisation of food self-sufficiency as targeted by the government,” he stated.
He said that Perum Bulog, together with the government, continues to strengthen the strategy for managing Government Rice Reserves through increased domestic absorption, even distribution, and strengthening of the food logistics system. These efforts are aimed at ensuring supply stability and stable prices, even in situations of extreme climate pressure.
“Going forward, Bulog will continue to strengthen cross-sector coordination to anticipate the impact of prolonged drought, while supporting various strategic government steps in maintaining national food security. Thus, community needs remain fulfilled and national food stability remains maintained,” he concluded.
