Jakarta — The Minister of Agriculture and head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Amran Sulaiman, has assured that the national food situation is safe and under control for the next 324 days, with rice production kept at about 5.7 million tonnes per month.

‘Our food availability is very safe. The total national rice stock is sufficient for 324 days ahead, or about 10.8 months, so the public does not need to worry,’ Amran said in Jakarta on Friday, 6 March 2026.

Based on the latest data as of March 2026, Amran emphasised that the supply of food, particularly rice, is very sufficient to meet long-term needs. He noted that national rice production ranges from 2.6 to 5.7 million tonnes per month, i.e., above the national average consumption of around 2.59 million tonnes per month.

Meanwhile, total national rice availability currently stands at 27.99 million tonnes, comprising Bulog stock of 3.76 million tonnes, community stocks around 12.50 million tonnes, and standing crop or harvest-ready paddy of 11.73 million tonnes.

Amran explained that the projection for national rice production also shows a very positive trend. From January to May 2026, production is projected to reach about 16.92 million tonnes, with monthly production averaging between 2.6 and 5.7 million tonnes.

According to him, the high production demonstrates that the national agricultural sector remains strong, even in the face of various global challenges. ‘Our production remains well maintained. In some months, production can reach 5.7 million tonnes, so domestic supply is very strong,’ he said.

In addition, the government’s rice stocks managed by Bulog are also increasing. Currently Bulog’s stock has reached 3.7 million tonnes, and is expected to surpass 5 million tonnes within two months as harvests come in across various regions.

‘We expect Bulog’s stock to reach 5 million tonnes in the next two months. This will further strengthen the government’s food reserves,’ Amran said.

The minister also emphasised that the government has taken various anticipatory steps to address potential drought due to climate phenomena. One measure is the irrigation pumping program for agricultural land of 1.2 million hectares, with plans to add irrigation for a further 1 million hectares this year.
