JAKARTA (JP): The government will speed up the realization of Exclusive Economic Zones in three islands -- Batam, Bintan and Karimun -- in the Riau Islands province, said provincial governor Ismeth Abdullah Tuesday.

"In the meeting (with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) yesterday (Monday), the president promised to speed up the development of the Exclusive Economic Zone," Ismeth was quoted as saying Tuesday.

He said the government was now finalizing the legal basis for the establishment of the economic zone, expected to boost the economic growth in the province.

The deliberation of the legal basis were also involved members of the Provincial Legislative Council, Chamber of Commerce, and other relevant organizations, according to Ismeth.

He however, did not specifically mention when Riau would have the economic zone(**)
