Riau allocates Rp 70b for small firms

PEKANBARU, Riau: Riau Governor Saleh Djasit said that the provincial administration had allocated Rp 70 billion in financial assistance for small- and medium-scale companies in the province.

"The funds are distributed through banks and their recipients are to be selected from village cooperatives, small- and medium- scale enterprises in rural areas that have the potential to accelerate the province's economic development program," he said in the closing ceremony of a sewing training program organized by the Selasih Foundation here on Monday.

The governor also appreciated the foundation's training programs to improve the quality of human resources and to help home industries in the province's rural areas.

"The development of small- and medium-scale enterprises is a task that has to be done not only by the provincial administration but also by the private sector and large companies. This is part of the government's policy to distribute wealth equally to all people," he said. --Antara
