RI youth in court on hacking charges

SINGAPORE (DPA): An Indonesian youth faces 16 charges of
unauthorized computer access and modifications after admitting he
hacked into the server of a Singapore research and development
institute from Australia, it was reported on Friday.

The case involving the 15-year-old student is the first in the
city-state of a person being tried for hacking into a local
server or website from abroad.

The teenager admitted in Juvenile Court on Thursday accessing
and modifying the Data Storage Institute's system four times and
altering the content in another company's server illegally, the
Straits Times said.

Deputy Public Prosecutor David Chew told the court the boy
became interested in hacking while studying in Australia between
May 1999 and April.
